Nature's Neighbor

Nature's Neighbor is the project of songwriter Mike Walker. The band's records cover a large swath of pop territory from folk & rock to electronic and ambient. Each album is typically differentiated by a rotating line-up around Walker and his frequent collaborators Terrill Mast, Brandon Studer & Seth Engel. Walker's song-writing tool box seems endless & ever-growing, and he is prolific.

Nature's Neighbor was formed by Mike Walker in Chicago in 2014. Their debut album Lifa was self released in 2015 by the band's label TaiDuo Music in January of that year and the band soon went on tour to support it. It was to be the band's only official tour. The band was signed to SOOPER RECORDS in 2016 and released their sophomore album Pidji through SOOPER, but left the Chicago based label soon after due to creative differences.

Since their debut, they have released at least 1 album every year with a rotating lineup of musicians. Each collection of songs has a different sound and feel due to its unique cast of characters, & the band has placed great importance in their open-door policy as the years have gone by. For example, although Walker is the primary vocalist there have been many others who have contributed their own lyrics and melodies such as Cheer Zhao, who sings occasionally in both English and Mandarin. Inclusivity, evolution, and change are the core tenets of Nature's Neighbor. It constantly keeps things new and interesting, and prevents them from making the same album twice.
