Nekromantheon started out in early 2005 with one goal in mind: to play fast, evil, and dirty thrash metal in the way of the old gods. Influenced by the classics — Slayer, Sadus, Kreator, Dark Angel, Sepultura — they launched a fierce assault on modern metal.
After the <a href="spotify:album:4qTXGh966TJw4ePDQHvNS6" data-name="We're Rotting">We're Rotting</a> EP in 2007, the band quickly gained traction in the underground. Their debut full-length <a href="spotify:album:0oCnt1PIPDQwbEphddKKwH" data-name="Divinity of Death">Divinity of Death</a> (2010) channeled unrelenting evil and raw energy, earning them spots at Maryland DeathFest and the Fenriz-curated Live Evil Festival in London. In 2012, they followed up with <a href="spotify:album:5pqWvky0RU7jxd3rso1yZ4" data-name="Rise, Vulcan Spectre">Rise, Vulcan Spectre</a> — a vicious, analog thrash assault that won the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) for Best Metal Album.
After nearly a decade of silence due to engagement with other projects (<a href="spotify:artist:3MZyFsSpsyKiEUhh1Xm4R9" data-name="Obliteration">Obliteration</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5mVI4OOATqklEKc0ZOFomS" data-name="Deathhammer">Deathhammer</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4kjFB4Ov8ipODHUIwvgjPE" data-name="Audiopain">Audiopain</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2eEuZMHC3LdWsxogUqlI3y" data-name="Djevel">Djevel</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1Zu9sLOdGKWtXZYnKhaOui" data-name="Black Viper">Black Viper</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6vkBIeffMTU8fUW2Rdj67H" data-name="Abhorration">Abhorration</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5vJq40wjazb7eDp3sh9twD" data-name="Flight">Flight</a>), Nekromantheon returned in 2021 with <a href="spotify:album:1K1DfreVEtdEHWulSAHjxY" data-name="The Visions of Trismegistos">The Visions of Trismegistos</a>, released via Hells Headbangers and Indie Recordings. With razor-sharp riffs, esoteric themes, and occult overtones, the album was hailed as a triumphant return.
Still eschewing trends and commercialism, Nekromantheon remains a pillar of the Norwegian underground — high-octane, no-bullshit thrash forged in fire, sweat, and tape hiss.
