Primary Songwriter Matt Ragland and lead singer Reid Umstattd co-founded Nelo during their college years. The band grew from small underground clubs to national stages such as Austin City Limits Music Festival, House of Blues, Granada Theatre, Georgia Theater, SXSW Music Festival, CMJ Music Festival and many more venues and festivals with a classically grass-roots approach, relying mostly on sheer word-of-mouth and consistent touring to spread the word. Pedernales Records (Willie Nelson’s record label) took note of the band early on and signed them to a recording contract in 2008 that helped produce three studio albums and two E.P.’s, some debuting in the top 10 of the iTunes Rock Charts and ranking #21 on the National Billboard Heatseekers Chart.
