A folk-inflected roots rock band formed by singer and songwriter <a href="spotify:artist:794GTZkztMS29PO7cTOnmY" data-name="Stephen Kellogg">Stephen Kellogg</a> in 2003 in Northampton, MA (most of the members were students at the nearby University of Massachusetts at Amherst), Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers (or SK6ERS, as the diehard call them) built a fan base through nonstop touring. Centered around <a href="spotify:artist:794GTZkztMS29PO7cTOnmY" data-name="Stephen Kellogg">Stephen Kellogg</a> and bassist/keyboardist Keith “Kit”Karlson and drummer Brian “Boots” Factor, the band has also featured at one time or another musicians Chris Soucy, <a href="spotify:artist:3WTUX9Lajs2G0U7yWN0SZN" data-name="Kyle Riabko">Kyle Riabko</a>, Dave “Cookie Dough” Chalfant, Chip Johnson and Sam “Steamer” Getz. <a href="spotify:artist:794GTZkztMS29PO7cTOnmY" data-name="Stephen Kellogg">Stephen Kellogg</a> had already released three independent solo as well as multiple albums from his college days by the time the Sixers came together. As the Sixers, the group released Bulletproof Heart in 2004, the self-titled Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers in 2005 (a major-label release with Universal Records), The First Waltz in 2006, Glassjaw Boxer in 2007 (named top 5 albums of the year by USA Today), The Bear, Live From The Heart, and Gift Horse (on Vanguard Records), as well as a few EP’s. This configuration of the band went on hiatus in 2012 after a sold out tour of theaters and clubs, although various configurations of the group continue to work together live and in the studio.
