nemanja is a global groove psych project behind which is Luka Sipetic, author and musician that has recorded and released albums "Tarot Funk", “Cosmic Disco” and “Voodoo Beat”.
The members of the live band are Matej Perić (drums), Karlo Lugarić (percussion) Laura
Matijašević (bass), Ana Kovačić (sax, synth) and Luka Šipetić (guitar).
Tarot Funk is a homage to the sound of Thai funk, Afro-funk, Anatolian (Turkish) rock of the 70's and Cambodian psych rock of the sixties. The specificity of the album is that the songs are written for specially selected Tarot cards, whose symbolism, together with the music, forms the narrative unit that the listener must discover for himself.
Sophomore Cosmic Disco ( July 2020) was written as a musical response to the Tibetan Book of the Dead. It describes the experiences that takes place after "Tarot Funk" - in the bardo, the interval between death and rebirth described in the Book of the Dead.
„Voodoo Beat” has been written as the (partial) musical retelling of the famous myth of Orpheus and Eurydice while also pulling inspirations from the two movies: „Orpheus“ (Jean Cocteau, 1950.) and „The Black Orpheus“ (Marcel Camus, 1959.). Heavily inspired by the Afro-Colombian rhythms, Caribbean dub sounds and Tropical exotica, „Voodoo Beat“ tells a story in which nemanja is possessing the dreams the of his former lover, a voodoo priestess, to persuade her to descend into the world of the
dead and bring him back into the world of the living.
