Nerfonator

Aidan Scaplen, under the stage name Nerfonator, is a rapper/producer from New Brunswick, Canada. With a catalog of just 2 albums (and rather juvenile, unavailable mixtapes predating), he’s displayed a knack for conceptual artistry and dense lyricism, drawing inspiration from Mac Miller, MF DOOM, Black Thought, and various other artists.

2020 marked the first year without a Nerfonator project since his start in 2018 as future plans would come to a halt. Roadblocks such as writer’s block and a global pandemic slowed his creative process down. But just a year later, his studio debut, The Tromonous, was released. Within the 2021 effort, creativity and vulnerability bloomed and built an atmosphere that would pull the listener into its psychological concept. However, the creation and lacklustre execution of The Tromonous weighed heavy on his mental health, and he highlights this all throughout his 2022 sophomore, Wake Up Call—a 10 track narrative of life’s grey area and one’s lack of motivation to get out of bed, even when you’re pursuing what you love.
