Growing up in the vibrant sound system culture, Nicko Rebel developed a deep love for music early on. Starting with mixtapes, he mastered music distribution and became drawn to production. With only high school steel band experience, he began composing using raw talent and a sharp ear. In 2008, he launched Nicko Rebel Music and Rebel Kultcha Studios.
Nicko built a deep catalog, producing for icons like Sizzla Kalonji, Nadine Sutherland, Burro Banton, and the late John Holt. His breakout track “Bewitched” featuring Voicemail topped both iTunes’ Reggae and Hip-Hop charts. His She’s My Heart Riddim compilation charted globally and drew praise from BBC 1Xtra’s David Rodigan.
His career reached new heights in 2019 with a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album on Koffee’s Rapture EP, followed by a 2021 Grammy nomination for Jesse Royal’s Royal. His work has also earned major commercial success, achieving 3x Platinum status in New Zealand along with Gold certification.
He continued strong in 2024 with Heartbreaks > Rejections, featuring the hit “Sometimes.” In 2025, he released Type of Love and CTRL and contributed to the No Change Needed Bodega project. His latest release, Saint x Savage, features the bold hit Gvngyal, gaining traction worldwide. Whether crafting hits or mentoring talent, Nicko Rebel stays committed to timeless music that bridges cultures and inspires.
