Nico Yaryan's 2016 singer-songwriter album "What a Tease" showcased his diverse influences: acoustic Dylan-esque yearning meets Dilla on the title track, "Just Tell Me" mixes a soul groove with fuzzy indie-rock, the allegorical "Old Gloria" is a country ballad ala Beck's Sea Change, "You Belong to Me" channels the motel-side desperation of Lucinda Williams via overdriven guitars and drums loops, and others show a love of 60s and 70s folk-rock and AOR. Yaryan grew up in the mountains of Santa Cruz, CA to hippy parents and cut his teeth making hip-hop in high school and touring with Hanni El Khatib playing rock drums in his twenties. Rumor has it he has been working on the follow up to "What a Tease" from somewhere in the mountains of Southern California since then. Will he be teasing us again sometime soon?
