Nutrients is a Toronto band that plays gentle and jangly pop songs often rooted in ‘70s soft rock and '80s new wave. Their latest album, <a href="spotify:album:0OzXRz9M6JeIo6moCbykSP" data-name="Something & More">Something & More</a> is a lighthearted quest with a surprise around every corner.
But everything began a little while ago now. After releasing a series of homemade tapes from 2016 - 2019, the band entered the studio to record a collection of songs with <a href="spotify:artist:1yr48L5ROYSDR0swBTOirD" data-name="Louie Short">Louie Short</a>. Mixed by <a href="spotify:artist:6hc0mVCpacCeXn2M8O8nj5" data-name="Lounge FM">Lounge FM</a>’s Adam Pauls, the self-titled, debut Nutrients album was released by Birmingham, Alabama independent label <a href="spotify:playlist:0cW8sVpd3EcEi0exyGuXDU" data-name="Earth Libraries">Earth Libraries</a> in late 2019. <a href="spotify:artist:7nFIGR22dbiI4huF3Vqoa7" data-name="Nutrients">Nutrients</a> sees the band’s softly-sung, breezy guitar pop evolve into something more compositionally dynamic. The record is mostly carefree and casual, yet occasionally tightly-wound and unpredictable. Highlights included the shapeshifting lounge pop of <a href="spotify:album:1t4m3ORrmRW8RNvLmJemjE" data-name="Such Slime">Such Slime</a>, the duelling guitars of <a href="spotify:track:4MCf4IRafWJ0oZsIO3iXt8" data-name="Hide & Seek">Hide & Seek</a> and the penultimate ballad <a href="spotify:album:2DUx4zhKrtb3bArKrir32R" data-name="Hyperbole">Hyperbole</a>.
Nutrients then came roaring back for the ‘20s with their 2022 album <a href="spotify:album:5Eohva00Xc0mUTJ31f1ddf" data-name="Different Bridges">Different Bridges</a>. Standout songs included the twangy <a href="spotify:track:5x5UnpcQjenIqSgwlRlRHJ" data-name="How the Breeze Felt">How the Breeze Felt</a> and the intimate seaside rendezous <a href="spotify:track:57rndZnAoD9IdeqokFjPD8" data-name="Long Walk On The Beach">Long Walk On The Beach</a>.
