New York's NYCL Kai combines the swagger of trap and the snotty attitude of skate-punk on his own brand of hip-hop, as heard on his eponymous 2020 debut album.
Growing up in the Bronx, Kai learnt how to play bass from an early age, inspired by the punk and hip-hop that he'd heard while being an active member of the N.Y.C. skate community. Bringing them together, his fiery mix of lo-fi beats, raging subs, guitar stabs, and in your face vocals, Kai's sound quickly found a home at Atlantic. 2019 saw the release of his debut single, "What About You", before he dropped his debut album, the self-titled NYCL Kai, the following year. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
