OAR have announced the release of The Blood You Crave, the first album from the Sydney-based post-black metal outfit. The Blood You Crave will be available soon via Blighttown Records (Aus/NZ) and Hammer of Exile (Europe).
OAR’s members past and present hail from a wide selection of bands including: Eleventh He Reaches London, Futility, Illimitable Dolor, Lycanthia, Sleepmakeswaves and Tucker B’s. The new album draws on these influences which cuts across post-black metal, doom and hardcore.
As the first full-length from OAR, The Blood You Crave follows 2018’s Sect Burner EP which is
available now on Blighttown Records.
From 2018 - 2019 the band shared the stage with the likes of Numunorean, Encircling Sea, Norse and Hope Drone and recorded instruments for the new album before the pandemic began. In between Sydney going in and out of lockdown the band completed the album.
Recorded and mixed by Ben Worsey at Everland Studios in Sydney, The Blood You Crave shows the band’s evolution from its early lofi blackgaze approach to full frequency post-black metal, unleashing the songs on The Blood You Crave at their true intensity.
The musical direction on the Blood You Crave is atmospheric misery. The themes explore oppression, sacrifice, self-loathing, separation anxiety and corruption of the self.
A live performance of songs from the new album was described as “emotive and captivating”. OAR will bring this energy to live shows in support of the new album throughout 2022.
