Formed in 2001, Oddfellow’s Casino are singer-songwriter David Bramwell and an ensemble of long-term band members and collaborators.
While early albums draw comparisons with Kevin Ayres and Robert Wyatt; by 2012’s The Raven’s Empire, Bramwell teamed up with Grasscut's Andrew Phillips to create a darker, more orchestrated record that was, ‘haunting, melodically beautiful and mesmerising,’ (Sunday Times).
ITheir fifth studio album Oh, Sealand, featured the voice of Alan Moore for a song to accompany John Higgs' book Watling Street. International Times' David Erdos described the LP as a, ‘mixture of ghostly folk and eerily urgent song craft.' The Quietus’s Ben Graham saw it as, ‘joining the dots between Pentangle and The Pet Shop Boys, Basil Kirchin and British Sea Power.’
To mark their 20th anniversary Oddfellow's released 3 albums: Burning! Burning!, The Cult of Water – also a Rough Trace booklet in collaboration with Pete Fowler and Alan Moore – and Music from the Cult of Water.
2023's Maison Mouton Sessions was the result of a 3-week residency for Bramwell in a French studio recording acoustic versions of old songs. 2024's Lewes Psych Fest Sessions was the first time the band had recorded live together in the studio, jamming out a muscular set based on their most recent gig.
As journalist Will Hodgkinson wrote, ’Like the 80s TV series The Hammer House Of Horror, Oddfellow’s Casino are familiar, ethereal, spooky and reassuring all at once — and very, very English.’
