A husband-and-wife duo based out of London, England, the Left Outsides' spectral blend of hazy British psych-folk and sepia-toned indie pop invokes names like <a href="spotify:artist:5tKbbPwaWvEl7dH4UQo1FB">Mike & Lal Waterson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5HFXZpQl9mIwUFLKoxBiCJ">Offa Rex</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0IwlY33zbBXN7zlS9DP2Cj">Nico</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0VeQgI9lzgoOMszAOq0iml">Richard Dawson</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5oskjjKT8YsWJV0o8NEV9R">Espers</a>. Founded in 2007 by Mark Nicholas and <a href="spotify:artist:1cYp6MXwirSdYPk7EcwqtE">Alison Cotton</a> after the dissolution of psych-folk outfit <a href="spotify:artist:1qPKQAaBKzAyEaHInwapxE">the Eighteenth Day of May</a>, the duo released a self-recorded CD-R and composed the soundtrack to the short film Stand & Deliver before issuing their first proper full-length, The Shape of Things to Come, in 2014. In addition to her work with the Left Outsides, <a href="spotify:artist:1cYp6MXwirSdYPk7EcwqtE">Cotton</a>'s viola can be heard on recordings by <a href="spotify:artist:4lBmxg4Z1e9NTDD05a2mhI">Sonic Boom</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1QFSWSYQpinYxsaAMG8jF2">Comet Gain</a>, and Saloon & British Air Powers, the latter of whom would eventually become <a href="spotify:artist:5zhn89Em2jWUUWdpcLO3YL">British Sea Power</a> -- Martin Noble (<a href="spotify:artist:5zhn89Em2jWUUWdpcLO3YL">British Sea Power</a>) and Graham Sutton (<a href="spotify:artist:0QwH5InvCwfL4UbYkjP9pi">Bark Psychosis</a>) were brought in to help engineer and mix the duo's debut. In 2017, the group issued their sophomore effort, There Is a Place, via <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Cardinal+Fuzz%22">Cardinal Fuzz</a>. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
