OJALA began as a Houston, Texas band, playing covers in the local scene in 2009. The band was formed by singer-songwriter, Chris Gomez, with the intentions of recording self-penned material.
In 2014, after a couple of lineup changes, Gomez decided to put performing on hold to restructure his original vision for the band: record an album.
Gomez approached notable musician/producer Nacho Lozano (La Firma) with a single, Vuelvo A Enamorarme, and Lozano quickly jumped on board to produce the OJALA debut album. Lozano brought a slew of guest musicians including co-producer Luis “Negro” Herrera (Cadetes De Linares), Chuy Muñoz (Los Herederos), Charly Macias (Dezigual), Ricky Lopez (Dezigual), and more.
“It’s an honor, and quite humbling, to be on the same tracks and in the studio with these guys. I’ve been a long time fan of their music with their respective bands, and now here we are laying down tracks together.” Said Gomez of the debut production.
Shortly after the Vuelvo A Enamorarme album, the trio (Gomez-Lozano-Herrera) began the production of a new album also written by Gomez. Three singles, Me Enamore, Es Imposible, and La Cualquiera, have been released. The sophomore album which features the songs is slated for an early 2020 release.
