Years ago, Ola Kvaløy was singer and one of the songwriters in the critically acclaimed indie pop band Lano Places. He later turned to academia and is now a professor at the University of Stavanger. In 2018, he was invited to perform at the economics festival Kåkånomics. This led him to form a new band, The Rent Seekers, with seasoned musicians, resulting in the release of the EP Laughing Days in 2019.

Following this, Kvaløy collaborated with Norwegian pop star Morten Abel and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Gallatin to produce his debut solo album, Any Other Life (2022). In 2024 and 2025, he released several singles leading up to his second solo album, Hear My Song, produced by Inge Engelsvold

Hear My Song has since received strong reviews both in Norway and abroad, with critics praising its strong melodies and warm arrangements.
