Opposite Standard is a ska-rooted, genre-blending band from Southern California, known for upbeat horn lines, sharp rhythms, and a high-energy mix of ska, punk, and alternative influences. Their music leans into melody, movement, and personality, driven by a horn section that cuts through with color and a rhythm section built to lift a room.
Their debut EP, Wonderland Inn, introduces a motel-themed world shaped by late-night thoughts, nostalgia, and the strange comfort of checking into somewhere familiar. Layered horns, textured keys, and guitar-driven hooks give their sound a warm, cinematic feel while keeping their ska foundation at the core.
Opposite Standard continues to build their presence through dynamic performances and a style that leaves room for experimentation without losing the spirit of ska. Whether they’re leaning into fast, horn-heavy moments or exploring alternative grooves, the band focuses on creating music that feels good, honest, and alive.
Members:
Richard Lynch – Guitar, Vocals
Tran Nguyen – Keys
Cesar Ibarra – Saxophones
Avelino Aquino – Trombone
Fernando Mendoza – Bass
Ben Ringer – Drums / Audio Engineer
