Bay Area-based Orixa got involved in the California Latin rock scene in the early '90s. Playing Latin ska, hip-hop, funk, and reggae, the band's self-titled debut album was recorded in 1996, after they signed to Aztlán Records. In addition, Orixa participated in two rock en Español compilations called Puro Eskanol and Aztlán Alternativo. Characterized by powerful performances and lyrics based on controversial social issues, the five-piece act became one of the most important local numbers and was nominated for Best Latin Rock Band in 1997's California Music Awards. In the year 2000, Orixa released 2012 e.d. ~ Drago Bonacich, Rovi
