Overlake

Overlake are a trio from New Jersey whose music combines the hooky melodies of indie pop with the big guitars and crashing drums of vintage shoegaze outfits. Overlake were formed in early 2012 in Jersey City, New Jersey by guitarist and vocalist Tom Barrett and bassist and backing vocalist Lysa Opfer. Barrett and Opfer first began working together when they were both members of a band called <a href="spotify:artist:2sNDERITXdK7D2GOQsFHsA">WJ & the Sweet Sacrifice</a>. While most of the members of the band smoked, Tom and Lysa did not, and when their bandmates were taking cigarette breaks, they would work out musical ideas of their own. In time, the pair had enough material that they decided to make a record. On Overlake's debut album, 2014's Sighs, Barrett overdubbed the drum tracks in addition to handling guitar and vocals. Barrett and Opfer initially had a difficult time finding a drummer who understood their creative viewpoint until they met Nick D'Amore at a party in early 2015 and found the missing ingredient in their formula. The trio teamed with producer Tom Beaujour to make their second album, Fall, which was released by respected New Jersey indie label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Bar%2FNone+Records%22">Bar/None Records</a> in May 2017. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
