“Born in Rufisque in 1947, his first group was Dakar Rhythms in 1966. Later he played as a singer musician with African Jazz, Jeuness Band de Dakar and Dunya Orchestra. 1971 saw him join up with old friend Laba Sosseh. From 1972 to ’78 he was first in Super Cap Verde Band, then Etoile de Dakar. In 1980 he formed his own group, first called Africa Band, then Nder de Dakar. In ’84 he rejoined Ibra Kassé and the Star Band. Under the control of Ibra’s son Alioune, who had taken over after Ibra’s death, the Star Band was renamed Kassé Stars. In ’93 he recorded the song “Tjouraye Congo” with Pape Fall on vocals. In 1995 Pape Fall formed African Salsa”. Dave Hucker
