Once upon a time, there was a Dutch prog band called Nice Beaver. Yes, we know. But, despite this, over a period of 25 years Nice Beaver produced 3 critically acclaimed albums, distributed through British label Cyclops and Polish label Oskar: ‘On Dry Land’ (2001), ‘Oregon’ (2004) and ‘The Time It Takes’ (2015). Boy, were they good!
However, as time marched on and sensitivities changed, “Nice Beaver” stopped being quite as funny as it had been in 1995. And when one founding member of the group left and his replacement brought a very different approach to playing bass guitar, it was time for a change.
Enter Paravane. A paravane can be a lot of things, such as a screen to divide a room or a contraption that is used to destroy sea mines. This last device is sometimes called an “otter” which is as close to a beaver as you can get. Anyway…
With the new name and the new bassplayer came a new energy that resulted in a new album that we are very proud of titled ‘Forever Is A Long Time Ago’. Six hefty songs with all the trappings you’d expect in progressive rock, thoughful lyrics about love and loss, neatly wrapped in gorgeous artwork. Self-recorded and self-produced, the new album has all the giddiness Nice Beaver were known for and all the gravitas the new band brings.
