Many people hope for disclosure — openness about non-human intelligences and extraterrestrial life. This desire is understandable and arises from curiosity, the search for truth, and the hope for a broader understanding of reality.

What is often overlooked is that contact does not automatically imply ethical alignment. Other intelligences may operate within moral and ethical frameworks fundamentally different from our own. Actions that might be considered functional, necessary, or even benevolent from their perspective could be experienced by humans as invasive, disempowering, or harmful.

This is especially critical where consciousness, free will, and mental integrity are concerned. Interventions affecting these domains may occur in ways that do not fit — and may directly violate — the human ethical framework, even if they are not perceived as harmful by the acting intelligence. Technological or evolutionary advancement does not guarantee empathy as humans understand it.

Disclosure therefore is not merely about information, but about responsibility. Meaningful preparation would require:
• awareness of ethical asymmetries,
• recognition of power and knowledge imbalances,
• and a firm commitment to protecting autonomy, consent, and dignity as non-negotiable values.
