Australian born singer-songwriter Harvey Russell and his longtime collaborator, California bred vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Josie Rothwell, held court on the Australian Americana scene, touring the country and internationally between 2013 and 2018 as the folk/acoustic alt-country duo Peasant Moon.

The liner notes for their debut EP Fading in the Light credit Harvey on “vocals, acoustic guitar and angst” and Josie on “melodica, glockenspiel, vocals and heart.” Their 2017 5-track EP Our Timing Was Wrong – recorded with Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studio in Sydney – keeps their perfect harmonic balance of darkness and light, expanding beyond their all-acoustic foundation with a full band.

Harvey and Josie originally met in Sydney, where Josie lived before relocating to Chicago. Friends for 15 years, they made music together for the last ten. Harvey invited Josie to join his country rock outfit Harvey Swagger Band on backing vocals. Over the next seven years, she added keys, bass and lead vocals. When a friend asked them to perform at a wedding in 2010 they began thinking about developing a duo format. While continuing to work on harmonies together for the other band, Harvey began writing songs for the two to sing together. Peasant Moon is the perfect vehicle for their intimate, acoustic alt-country, sharing stories of disappointment & heartbreak.
