Phantom, Rocker & Slick was a short-lived project that joined two former <a href="spotify:artist:2ibPkysx2PXqWLmxFD7jSg">Stray Cats</a> with longtime hired-gun guitarist <a href="spotify:artist:7Mb4lYtLcnJzUTS0IYfS60">Earl Slick</a>. With their career in decline and personal tension on the rise, <a href="spotify:artist:4xiBg5AwhlWtuxAJO9rO6f">Brian Setzer</a> chose to disband the <a href="spotify:artist:2ibPkysx2PXqWLmxFD7jSg">Stray Cats</a> in late 1984. Bass player <a href="spotify:artist:5qDorluwjJoYGYfPo1skgs">Lee Rocker</a> and drummer <a href="spotify:artist:3HfEn2cgHnv9NDtw9tS6ps">Slim Jim Phantom</a> united with guitarist <a href="spotify:artist:7Mb4lYtLcnJzUTS0IYfS60">Earl Slick</a>, who had played with <a href="spotify:artist:0oSGxfWSnnOXhD2fKuz2Gy">David Bowie</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:29depPcBWPGMjwZeqJHbQi">Silver Condor</a> as well as leading his own band. Blending the rockabilly stylings of the <a href="spotify:artist:2ibPkysx2PXqWLmxFD7jSg">Stray Cats</a> and adding a bit of glam rock muscle courtesy of <a href="spotify:artist:7Mb4lYtLcnJzUTS0IYfS60">Slick</a>, the trio released a self-titled debut in late 1985. Despite mixed reviews among critics, the album remained on the U.S. charts for almost six months and Phantom, Rocker & Slick managed to make a slight impact at rock radio, where the bruising track "Men Without Shame" went Top Ten. The release of Cover Girl a year later would elicit little interest and Phantom, Rocker & Slick parted ways; <a href="spotify:artist:3HfEn2cgHnv9NDtw9tS6ps">Phantom</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5qDorluwjJoYGYfPo1skgs">Rocker</a> to participate in several <a href="spotify:artist:2ibPkysx2PXqWLmxFD7jSg">Stray Cats</a> reunions, and <a href="spotify:artist:7Mb4lYtLcnJzUTS0IYfS60">Slick</a> to do session work. ~ Tom Demalon, Rovi
