The Los Angeles-based disco/house group Pharaohs were formed in 2009 by producers Alejandro Cohen and Samuel Cooper, who met in a record store and bonded over their purchases. The duo began playing around L.A. with a revolving cast of musicians before adding third member Suzanne Kraft and recording their four-track debut EP "Uhh Uhh" for the tastemaking L.A. disco and house label 100% Silk in October of 2011. The group spent 2012 playing shows and working on recordings, resurfacing on vinyl in January of 2013 with the Island Time 12" for ESP Institute. The album mixed live instrumentation with the machines, with the group bringing in Franco Falsini of the '70s Italian prog rock group Sensations' Fix to play guitar. The band's full-length debut, Replicant Moods, followed shortly and was released in April of 2013 on 100% Silk. ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi
