The Cincinnati-based art rock and indietronica project began in late 2015, when bassist Jared Wilson (Bi, <a href="spotify:artist:4j3FUDMByfHnkwBEQCdmeK" data-name="Wringer">Wringer</a>) moved from his native Bloomington to the Queen City and met guitarist Christopher Sweeney (<a href="spotify:artist:0kfekD5MZd76huRyFv95G2" data-name="The Electric Moon">The Electric Moon</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3OX4skiU9o7fxdi5Li7k5l" data-name="Valley of the Sun">Valley of the Sun</a>) and vocalist Jonathan Goolsby (host of Radio Artifact's Salina Underground).
The trio began writing synth-tinged indie rock songs that blended multi-part harmonies, layered instrumentation, live-plus programmed percussion and lyrical romanticism. Pianist <a href="spotify:artist:1JAcjot9WtP67npJsD4V5T" data-name="Rachel Mousie">Rachel Mousie</a> (<a href="spotify:artist:3hXpUwxHG5kmXeXYXH1wvY" data-name="A Delicate Motor">A Delicate Motor</a>) and drummer / EDM artist <a href="spotify:artist:2AyCqAzWa7dKyxPQqo8c70" data-name="Kelly Eryn">Kelly Eryn</a> soon joined them, and the band evolved into a balanced, 5-way songwriting collaborative.
In August, 2016, Phasmids played their first show at The Listing Loon in Cincinnati; other local and regional dates followed. Their debut EP, '<a href="spotify:album:3r4oRF45B9HpAq62mUi2t5" data-name="Phasmids">Phasmids</a>' was recorded at The Lodge (Dayton, KY) and in their own studio over the course of 2017. It was soft-released in May, 2018.
Following the EP's completion, Mousie left the project to focus on graduate school and Wilson left to focus on his solo work. Kelly moved to full-time keyboardist, John Kathman (<a href="spotify:artist:6exNdhpajYpm58tOCRqptW" data-name="The Minor Leagues">The Minor Leagues</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:34eJAwGsBh5VaEBWLCYdi5" data-name="Albino Vega">Albino Vega</a>) filled the drummer's throne, and vocalist Megan Claunch and bassist Rae Fisher signed on.
The collective released a new single, <a href="spotify:album:0J2f4JaxqhlOz15vFyJJeV" data-name="The Closest Thing / No Outside World">The Closest Thing / No Outside World</a> in early 2020. They're recording their first LP, which is due out in late 2020.
