Phil Best plays classical piano repertoire in a fresh, vivid and innovative way. Phil’s effortless musicianship and technique is never used for hollow displays of virtuosity, academic interpretation or self-conscious, inscrutable weirdness. Instead, he takes a radical approach to classical music that favours spontaneity, natural rhythm with clear, flexible grooves and intelligible phrasing. Refusing to indulge in the cheapening populist approaches of many classical crossover artists, Phil’s emotionally complex and deeply connected performances nevertheless demonstrate how classical piano music is entirely accessible and relevant for today’s audience.
