Grew up in Oakland, got banned from 924 Gilman for being too indie. Too punk for the indie clubs. Too indie for the punk clubs. So the band figured it out themselves — recorded in Guitar Center after hours, slept in abandoned offices, lived in a van, and carved their own path because there wasn't one waiting for them.
When the band dissolved in LA, the recording never stopped. What started as demos became one of the more genuinely strange and singular bodies of work in independent music. Working in the tradition of Tame Impala and Toro Y Moi but beholden to no one.
SPECTRA was made in isolation on a remote island in Washington. The Tree That Broke The Cement was inspired by two weeks in the African bush — nature will run its course no matter how hard man tries to change it. American Mood Ring is a widescreen portrait of America: restless, fractured, nostalgic, and hopeful. A protest record disguised as a pop album.
Produced records with 6LACK, Khalid, Saint JHN, and Dave Bayley (Glass Animals) — earning a platinum credit that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough. Shared stages with Cannons, TV Girl, Goth Babe, Boy Pablo, and Day Wave.
Each project stands on its own — a sonic movie for your ears. Close your eyes. Maybe you can see it too.
