Formed in the USA in 1993, PIST.ON carved out their place in the late '90s alt-metal scene with two powerful releases: Number One (1996) via Fierce Recordings/Atlantic Records, and $ell Out (1999) through Mayhem/Music For Nations. Following up with the independently released Saves EP in 2001, the band then entered a lengthy hiatus.
After more than two decades, PIST.ON returned in 2022 with the Cold World EP, their first new recordings since 2001. The EP was reissued later that year with bonus material as Cold World+, released on M-Theory Audio.
Brooklyn-based and built around core members Henry Font (vocals/guitar), Burton Gans (guitar), and Jeff McManus (drums), the band now includes bassist Jack Hanley (ex–The Deadlyz). Their sound is a distinctive blend: brooding, mid-paced guitar riffs meet unexpected vocal harmonies. Difficult to pigeonhole, PIST.ON toe a curious line—they’re not self-indulgent enough to be metal, too clever for goth, and far too tuneful to be outsider art. Their bleak humour, artistic commitment, and refusal to conform remain their most charming attributes.
PIST.ON have headlined numerous tours and shared stages with heavyweights such as Marilyn Manson, Korn, Clutch, Fu Manchu, Type O Negative, Queensrÿche, and The Misfits.
