Crowbar was formed in 1990 from the ashes of The Slugs, with original members Kirk Windstein and Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod) setting out to move beyond the thrash trends of the time and create a heavier, more deliberate sound. Blending doom metal with elements of hardcore, and drawing influence from bands such as The Melvins, Carnivore, Trouble, St. Vitus, and the fusion of Black Sabbath with East Coast hardcore, Crowbar forged a style that would become a defining force in heavy music. Often labeled “sludge metal”—a term Windstein has never fully embraced—the band is widely regarded as a cornerstone and originator of the New Orleans metal sound. Windstein, the sole remaining original member, has guided Crowbar through numerous lineup changes and the release of 12 critically acclaimed albums. After more than three decades of relentless touring and recording, Crowbar remains a vital and legendary powerhouse, continuing to inspire new generations of metal fans and experiencing a resurgence in global streams across their storied catalog.
