Pneumatic Tubes is the recording name for Jesse Chandler (also the keyboard & woodwinds player for Midlake and Mercury Rev). His music is beautifully haunting, psychedelic and ambient; a kind of American Kosmiche. It's a mellow and nostalgic blend of electronics and acoustic instruments - shot through with Chandler's trademark flutes and clarinets.
Chandler is a composer and multi-instrumental musician based in Denton, Texas. Originally hailing from the storied
mountains of Woodstock, New York where he studied piano and woodwinds from the age of 7.
In addition to being a permanent member of Midlake & Mercury Rev, he’s also a member of acclaimed UK singer Beth Orton’s live group. In 2023 he won a Grammy with Madison Cunningham for her album "Revealer". He features on her forthcoming album and
will be joining her live band. He has also toured and recorded with artists such as Cass McCombs, The Decemberists, Daniel
Johnston and White Denim.
"A Letter from TreeTops is a beguilingly languid and intoxicating listen... Absolutely gorgeous."
ELECTRONIC SOUND
"Chandler uses keyboards and woodwind to full nostalgic effect, every tone hinting at some keenly felt absence... There is also a lovely sense of drama in the way the tracks have been sequenced, each one contrasting with or extending the mood of what came before."
