Known from bands like <a href="spotify:artist:0SannT3hsrgAXQ9abyVQsB" data-name="I Was A King">I Was A King</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:05cIXkUrp0FwiuMyanZYFi" data-name="Heroes & Zeros">Heroes & Zeros</a> and a dozen of other alternative acts, <a href="spotify:artist:4qwLBjh58x5tyS6lN5MAUV" data-name="Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen">Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen</a> has been a part of a vital Norwegian indie scene for more than 20 years.
Over the last years he has also started the bi-continental jangle group <a href="spotify:artist:0MeZVhM2u0kh7yDtwfmXJ4" data-name="The No Ones">The No Ones</a> with Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey from <a href="spotify:artist:4KWTAlx2RvbpseOGMEmROg" data-name="R.E.M.">R.E.M.</a> / <a href="spotify:artist:7k8oHbK8ratXIVlYX7fVRU" data-name="The Minus 5">The Minus 5</a> and I Was A King frontman Frode Strømstad. Besides this, Kjelsrud Mathisen has made a living from composing music for dance, butoh, performances, shortfilms and more.
Now the Norwegian multi-instrumentalist is releasing solo material as Rural Tapes. His music clearly draws inspiration from the 70`s krautrock scene, jazz, ambient, film music and library music.
His albums features guest appearances from Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey), McCaughey/Buck, Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate) and Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor) among others.
