Poel grew up just a short drive away from the shores of Lake Michigan, but his spirit was destined for the shimmering sands of the Pacific, where the thirty-something singer/songwriter has resided for the better part of a decade.

And indeed, Poel had some success with what makes a hit. His west coast Cali-pop single, “LIB” (Lightning in a Bottle) went to Number 1 on the “What’s in Store” music charts in 2018, with 3 million streams.

The single was penned and performed by Poel under the name Austin David, a moniker he’s shed in favor of his last name for his new punk project, Poel (pronounced: Pool).

It wasn’t until he was asked to portray Kurt Cobain in a Vegas-style tribute show (where Poel embodied the late musician, performing a guitar solo while collapsing to the ground) that Poel said he finally hit his stride.

Poel put out his first punk single called, “1997,” with an arsenal of punk riffs and politically motivated lyrical content, in June of 2022.

Poel’s latest single ‘WAVES’ drops 28 September 2022 and was produced by Poel’s long time friend and Billboard # 1 producer Rokman. Poel says ‘ This song has all the hallmarks of a righteous punk song. The guitar riffs/the gang vocals/ the fast af punk drums...it’s all in there. I played/sang everything minus the drums (AJ BARRETTE) I spend a lot of time in the ocean surfing/swimming and a lot of the lyrical content personifies the ocean’s change in movements to a shift in consciousness amongst the people”
