Pogatsa

Pogatsa is a Rwandan Hip Hop artist widely considered one of the pioneers of the Kinyatrap movement and one of the most significant and well-regarded cultural Hip Hop artists in Rwanda.

Like many Rwandan artists, Pogatsa released several singles as early as 2015, but he rose to prominence in 2018 with his debut album, Ngoma 100. The album featured the hit single Nyabingi, which gained national recognition. Ngoma 100 showcases Pogatsa's commentary on the colonial era's impact on Rwandans, paired with gritty lyrics about the cultural lifestyle of the past, fused with modern sounds. The album emphasizes Rwandan heritage and nationalism, themes central to his music.

His second album, Mucakara (2021), further cemented his role in advancing Rwandan culture through music. Both albums were released under Green Ferry Music.

In 2024, Pogatsa collaborated with Dr. Nganji to release a joint EP titled Reka So. The EP explores life’s challenges while delving into the evolution of Kinyatrap—a genre that blends Kinyarwanda, Rwanda’s traditional language and cultural identity, with the modern sounds of trap music.
