Protoje, born Oje Ollivierre, stands at the core of Jamaica’s musical renaissance. A visionary artist, he blends reggae’s rich heritage with hip-hop, soul, and jazz. Raised in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, the son of singer Lorna Bennett and calypsonian Mike Ollivierre, his journey has been driven by purpose and craft. He broke through with “Rasta Love” ft. Ky-Mani Marley in 2010 during the rollout of his debut album The Seven Year Itch, and became a leading voice of the reggae revival with 2014’s “Who Knows” ft. Chronixx.

He earned Grammy nominations for Best Reggae Album for A Matter of Time (2018) and Third Time’s The Charm (2022). His dynamic performances have reached global stages including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, NPR’s Tiny Desk, Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza. Beyond reggae, he has collaborated with Jorja Smith, Alicia Keys, Pa Salieu, and Wiz Khalifa.

Protoje founded In.Digg.Nation Collective, which nurtured Sevana, Lila Iké, and Jaz Elise, and launched Kingston’s two-day Lost In Time festival. Praised by DAZED for highlighting reggae’s vitality and intergenerational dialogue, the event reflects his impact. Through his artistry and leadership, Protoje remains one of modern reggae’s most dynamic forces—a cultural catalyst redefining Jamaican music in the 21st century.

Now in 2026, he presents his new album The Art of Acceptance, produced entirely by Winta James, with features from Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, Masicka, Shenseea, and more.
