Ptarmigan is an indie folk band based in Toronto. Five years after the band’s self-titled sophomore record, Ptarmigan will release their much anticipated third album ‘Cocoon’ in Fall 2021. Building upon the band’s dramatic modern folk sound, the album digs deeper into their signature interplay of acoustic string arrangements (banjo, mandolin, fiddle) and ethereal electronic-based sounds (synthesizer, electric guitar). Filtering stories of home through the lens of his own experiences, Ptarmigan songwriter Peter McMurtry draws inspiration from science fiction, fantasy, and stories of his own family history on Cocoon. The result is a vivid collection of songs and portraits of people within their living and shifting centres. Cocoon was produced by Ptarmigan band member Sam Gleason and welcomed the collaboration of outside artists Isa Burke (Lula Wiles), Robert Alan Mackie (Aerialists, The Bombadils) and Evan Cartright (The Weather Station, Andy Shauf, Tasseomancy, Omhouse).
