Purple Witch of Culver is a Los Angeles-based Art-Indie duo featuring vocalist/saxophonist <a href="spotify:artist:2YKXMR32VAy7dyOXy0eNwm" data-name="Sarah Safaie">Sarah Safaie</a> and producer/multi instrumentalist <a href="spotify:artist:27ebLAePpw77AXsYzwwfI5" data-name="Evan Taylor">Evan Taylor</a>.
Born as a creative experiment by two musicians with different backgrounds, Safaie and Taylor stumbled upon a unique musical palate that critics such as NPR's All Songs Considered have described as thought provoking and like little else populating the current musical landscape.
The pair found an immediate chemistry during what was meant to be an initial informal recording session to develop some of Safaie's recent poetic fragments.
Influenced by bebop, in addition to punk rock and new wave, Safaie moved to NYC out of high school to attend the New School for Jazz. While there, she ventured out of the traditional straight ahead world, discovering the city’s experimental noise and art rock scene.
Safaie moved to L.A. in 2020, where she met and felt an immediate musical connection with Taylor, whose credits as musical director and producer have ranged from Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic, Jimmy Destri of Blondie and countless others cross-genre.
The group most uniquely shape shifts while delivering a cohesive collection.
Purple Witch of Culver has received acknowledgement from NPR, WFMU, LA Weekly and countless other outlets.
