96 was a special year in the books of Sri Lankan history. The obvious aside, while the world knew our island for the news it was making, it wasn’t quite ready for what was shaping up to be a legend in the rap scene; what was present was, a young, lyrically skilled boy with a special kind of fineness, already noted in his school.
97, saw the emergence of Pushpe aka Killer B while he was in Unsolved. The group later went onto release the first-ever drum n bass track on the radio, but that’s not where he stopped! He brought in some serious heat at TNL Onstage in 2000 and later in 2002.
2003 saw him score a huge win on Sun Fm’s live rap competition and this brought in alliances with Ruki D & Iraj. 2007 saw him, partner, up with Iraj & the illnoize crew who were radio & concert staples.
Just like every rap icon, nothing stopped him from forging sonic greatness of his own, be it his own singles or iconic verses - remember “Mata Sithanne Bae’, ‘Varrayo Vennilave’, Pa Salamba Sala’, ‘Horu’ and ‘Pushpe’.
2020, is the year where he’s forging on, but this time around with the family that is Serandip Records.
