Quazar was a ten-piece funk band from the Plainsfield, NJ, area created by Kevin Goins, the brother of Parliament/Funkadelic lead singer and guitarist Glen Goins. Originally known as Eclipse, the band woodshedded for six years before cutting their first and only album, Quazar, released September 1978 on Arista Records. The delay was caused by Glen's involvement and commitment with the P-Funk organization. The ball didn't get rolling until Glen quit over money (what else) and had the time to shape the band into an exciting and marketable commodity. The complete lineup consisted of Kevin (guitar, vocals), Richard Banks (keyboards, vocals), Eugene Jackson (bass, vocals), Jefferey Adams (drums), Gregory Fitz (keyboards), Peachena (vocals), Darryl Dixon (saxophone), Monica Peters (trumpet), Daryl De Lomberto (percussion), and Harvey Banks (guitar). Everything went on schedule until Glen's untimely death in 1978 halfway through the recording of their album. Another ex-Parliament/Funkadelic alumni, Jerome Brailey, helped them complete the album for Arista. They opened concerts for Roy Ayers, Cameo, and others but never overcame Glen's death and, without their mentor, faded from the scene. ~ Andrew Hamilton, Rovi
