Raccoon Therapy is a California-based trio blending the childhood nostalgia of pop punk with an over-caffeinated, under-prepared, just-loud-enough-for-noise-complaints attitude. Formed in the winter of 2019 after a handful of barely-successful garage jam sessions, highschool friends Moses Reyes, William Swartz, and Spencer Jeppson set out to play local shows around Modesto, including disapproving church gyms and backyards. Their self-titled, self-recorded EP was released later in February of 2020, but after a full-length album and a well-timed TikTok, Raccoon Therapy made their name known. Their first album, Last Summer Days, showcases a high-energy sound with witty lyrics about small towns and summer girls, active basslines, punchy drums, and fuzzed out guitar. Their most recent release, Ghost Stories, maintains their characteristic energy while leaving room for maturity.
In the summer of 2020, Spencer announced that he would be serving a full-time mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Moses and William have continued to write new music in anticipation for Spencer’s return, and the three plan on picking things right back up where they left off in 2022. Stay tuned.
