Rebecca York is a British singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from a deep well of Country and Americana which she infuses with Indie Folk. Her influences include Alison Krauss, Johnny Cash, Eva Cassidy, Emmy Lou Harris and Lee Ann Womack.
In 2009 she attended the UK's Academy of Contemporary Music where she was awarded Vocalist of the Year. She subsequently joined John Grimsey to make up the other half of The Honey Ants, which had airplay on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music and were chosen to play the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. The duo was also the recipient of PRS International Showcase Funding for their performance at AmericanaFest 2017 in Nashville.
Since 2016 Rebecca has traveled back and forth to Music City, co-writing with prestigious songwriters including Phil Madeira (The Civil Wars), Michael Logen (Kelly Clarkson) and Robert White Johnson (Lynyrd Skynyrd). Rebecca’s vocal, which fuses shades of Stevie Nicks, Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris, has been described as ‘powerful and sombre, managing to break hearts without ever feeling affected’ (Drunkenwerewolf).
2024 sees Rebecca releasing her debut single as a solo artist. Her debut single ‘Threadbare’ is a haunting, indie folk composition, that plays with the idea of a heart being left threadbare after love lost.
