For Renn, everything started with a look out across the ocean. Raised in his hometown of Wilmington, NC, it was easiest for him to feel connected to the world around him through the power and serenity of water. Picking up guitar at age 11, he began falling in love with poets and songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, David Gray, and Ray LaMontagne. Looking into their worlds as one would view the waves along the shoreline, he would eventually submerse himself entirely, until songs of his own began to take shape.
After moving to Northern California later in his life, he offer these stories that connect us all with his unique life and experiences, from the ocean of pain he paints in his title track “Heartache and a Song” to the obscured California sunset mentioned in “I Forgive You.”
He currently resides in Nashville, TN, creating and collaborating with other musicians in Americana and other genres.
