"Like all good emo bands, Rich Octopus skillfully express both the lingering pangs of youth and the existential musings and uncertainties that arise as we find ourselves getting older." - Mary Beth Campbell, Antigravity Magazine.
Rich Octopus began as acoustic trio in New Orleans, LA in 2016. They self-recorded their debut EP, Phone Home, and The Split with Illinois' based artist, happytears. After three years of writing, playing the Louisiana DIY show circuit, and finally securing a drummer, the group went into the studio in the summer of 2019 with Brian Pretus (of legendary local punk outfit PEARS) to record their first LP.
Mixed by Pretus and mastered by Tyler Pilot of Red Dot Recording, the self-titled debut captures the band at a moment in time. Inspired by modern emo and early '00s pop punk, the album has a sound that is deeply personal and honest, but unafraid of being whimsical and carefree. From songs about finding and losing love, to drinking High Life with friends, "Rich Octopus" tells a story of growing up, and coming to terms with who you are as you navigate the highs and lows of young adulthood.
Rich Octopus is:
Christian Babin - bass
Maxine DeRouen - drums
William Hoffpauir - vocals
Ian Sdfuh - guitar, vocals
