Richard is a born and bred South African singer-songwriter, based in London.
After winning season 1 of The Voice South Africa, Richard signed to Universal
Music and released his debut album, "Middle Ground" - featuring his lead, #1
single, "What Tears Me The Most", originally penned by James Bay. The album
went straight to Number 1 on the South African iTunes charts and Richard
toured South Africa for 18 months, playing sold out shows and festivals all over
the country, sharing stages with the likes of Grammy Award winning South
African legends, Lady Smith Black Mambazo and American Alternative rock
band, "The Pixies".
After a whirlwind couple of years, Richard then decided to go independent and
moved overseas to cut his teeth and grow his sound. Driven by authenticity,
existentialism, hyper-awareness of the human condition and the fleeting nature
of it all, Richard’s new music reminds listeners that they’re not alone in this wild
world being human. That highs, lows, dreams, failures, self-doubt and belief are
ever present, yet never constant. The songs speak to encourage constant
reflection on one’s path, in a reminder to always keep joy, peace, love, fulfilment
and those closest to you, firmly front of mind.
