In the 1990s Rick found success with his group Harsh Reality opening for national acts including Joan Jett and the Plasmatics. The band soon became a fixture in the New York City alternative scene, performing regularly at CBGBs, The Bitter End, The Cat Club, Kenny's Castaways, the Lion's Den, Cafe Wha?, and Nightingales.
Rick later began an alternative project named Pilgrim Soul, joined by his wife Anne Marie.
