Robinson Malinga (08 November 1968 - 25 December 2017) best known as Robbie became a South African singer, songwriter and producer. Malinga was instrumental in developing the musical skills of many South African artists including <a href="spotify:artist:6FgSMfwOMDbtgUIOiwmwJF" data-name="Kabelo">Kabelo</a>, Arthur Mafokate, <a href="spotify:artist:5kCOHJfvrZck0x0nS5KE8e" data-name="Mzekezeke">Mzekezeke</a> and many others. His greatest interest was in Afro-Pop music where he worked closely with <a href="spotify:artist:2MhYuOM0iHfOwQ0HeLa0no" data-name="Kelly Khumalo">Kelly Khumalo</a>.

Robbie was born in Meadowlands township, Soweto. His love for music began at an early age when he played the piano in church. Every Sunday he trained to play the piano until he finally got the tune he had been looking for, here he ended up being the pianist at church.

He studied music at Roodeport College with his friend DJ <a href="spotify:artist:4ak8w8LmNVLnT4sULNEimt" data-name="Mahoota">Mahoota</a> who became famous with <a href="spotify:artist:4xrsK22CWDEPYIrreVE018" data-name="Trompies">Trompies</a>. He entered the kwaito music scene in 1998 where he released a hit song titled Insimbi. Over time he focused on composing and singing afro-pop music where he made a significant contribution to the development of this genre
