For years, Romy Dya poured her gifts as a vocalist, songwriter and producer into building other people's dreams. Millions have heard her voice leading the global hit So Far Away by Martin Garrix and David Guetta, or sampled on tracks by Chris Brown, Drake, J Hus and Lil Tjay. After leaving a career in law for music, she spent years creating for others in an ageist, sexist, male-dominated industry. This year, she stopped compromising and stepped into her own light with raw, unfiltered R&B, Soul and Neo-Soul.
Her album Hear My Nudes is built around emotional nudity: the courage to be fully seen, heard and felt without armour. A Dutch-Indonesian single mother of two, Romy has lived through trauma, depression and homelessness, then reframed homelessness as becoming a nomad, recording 16 tracks across the Netherlands, Los Angeles, Indonesia and Brazil. When her mic fell apart mid-recording, she kept the white noise in, leaving the record raw and human.
Co-produced and co-mixed by Romy and featuring a spoken voice memo from Snoop Dogg, Hear My Nudes is a love letter to anyone who has mistaken lust for love or lost themselves in a shituationship, guiding listeners toward radical self-love.
Single Cosmic Love out 30 October. Album out worldwide 27 November.
