Started in 1984 as a noise-punk-avant-garde-experimental unit. In 1987, vocalist Tõnu Pedaru joined the band. After that, the band's creative focus shifted to more indie-pop/rock with continued experimentality of eclectic sounds. A cassette tape sent by letter to the English DJ John Peel, was played on the BBC and began a special relationship with the legendary radio voice.
Stylistically almost wall-to-wall underground, the debut album was an I.LU of almost 1.5 hours, recorded in the studios of Estonian Radio. It was followed by the post-pop EP History Of The USSR, recorded for the Finnish label Stupido. In 1992, Popsubterreanea was released, the first CD album in Estonia and the first kind of shoegaze-style release for the indie scene.
In 1993 the band finally made the pilgrimage to London to record a John Peel session. Peel`s favorite Eastern European band stayed at his country house for weeks! To get rid of the blokes and back to Estonia, DJ had to sell a couple of his records to buy them the bus tickets to Tallinn.
1994 RÖ had there to be a final album, titled “Psychikosmos”, highly acclaimed by critics' release of electronic sample-loaded sounds.
2004, after a 10-year hiatus, the band reunited, one of the key creative forces behind the process was Sten Sheripov, musician and producer. “Supersymmetry” ( 2005) more guitar & rock-oriented sounds was released.
2009 their fifth album “Ringdrada” was released.
2024 - the 6th album of the band “Transcent" was released.
