Hi, it’s Roy here. Here’s a quick rundown of where I’ve been, where I am and where I’m going!
I started making music in 2018 following the death of Mac Miller; having been a classical musician (choral and opera singing) up to that point, he inspired me to have a go at writing my own lyrics and rapping over youtube beats. I released an EP and a few singles to Soundcloud before making the leap to Spotify in late 2019. My music is an amalgamation of hip hop, dance and alternative pop music, but I’m trying to evolve my sound with every song. For example, my new song (out 1st September) is heavily influenced by alternative rock!
Since 2019 I have been at university and I’m now doing an MPhil in Economics. That's why my release schedule is so sporadic. But I've only got 1 year left and after that it's music full-time so expect some consistency! Despite being a full-time student, the past year has been great musically: I organised and sold out my first event in London, performed at my first festival this summer and am releasing by far my best song yet (along with an entirely AI-generated music video)!
So, what does the future hold? Two big things come to mind: I definitely want to pursue alternative rock further and I want to give my music more of a significant message… there’s so many important things happening across the world (both good and bad) that aren’t getting the attention they deserve from musicians. So, come join the journey!
