Royaume are a rising French duo exploring themes of intersectionality, equality and empowerment via an enticing fusion of dream pop, soul and electronica. Members Yumi Aoki and Moon Boy are on a mission to manifest positive change and although they both hail from Paris, at heart they consider themselves to be citizens of the world.

Moon Boy - a trained guitarist, synth aficionado and astronomy enthusiast first encountered Yumi’s striking vocal talents at an after party in 2015. Their debut release of the same year, ‘Blue Asphalt’ immediately sent ripples through the blogosphere and the follow up ‘Endless Grace’ was picked up by the well known French talent-spotter label ‘Opening Light Musique’. Having cemented their status as hot emerging entity, the partnership with Le Label [PIAS] swiftly followed.

Drawing inspiration from Banks, The XX, Laurie Anderson and Ben Khan the pair have crafted a distinct signature sound. Yumi commands a poised yet majestic voice, reminiscent of Lana Del Ray – at times soothing and at others driving, yet always balanced and beautiful to behold. Complimenting this with layered, manipulated digital textures, Moon Boy manages to craft graceful soundscapes, exuding positivity. Royaume believe whole-heartedly that the key to producing good music is “[to be] sincere in the creation and production process of your song” and that is exactly what is present in all their releases to date – sincerity.

Currently recording a debut EP following the release of their fourth single ‘If We’, Royaume has flourished in France’s burgeoning underground scene. Having now found favour with leading online curators Earmilk, Indie Shuffle and Hillydilly among others, they are seeing the emergence of a cult-like following and have already amassed upwards of 1 million streams. To describe their music the pair quotes the film “The Tree of Life” by Terrence Malick: “there are two ways through life: the way of nature, and the way of grace.” Floating alongside their intricate harmonies, Royaume choose the way of grace.
