Vocalist Ruby Winters recorded several energetic soul singles for tiny labels throughout the late '60s and early '70s, but never could break out beyond regional status. Winters was born in Kentucky, but raised in Cinncinnati. She had her first chart hit in 1967, teaming with <a href="spotify:artist:31NJDSG3JJ4oZ978LICSGi">Johnny Thunder</a> for a duet remake of <a href="spotify:artist:1Jqk46QvzUn7SnwmTGX6Cw">Jo Stafford</a>'s 1954 single "Make Love to Me." Their version peaked at number 13 on the R&B charts. She had another Top 20 hit with "I Don't Want to Cry" in 1969 for Diamond, and one final Top 20 single in 1969 with "Guess Who." Subsequent releases on Polydor, Playboy, and Millennium through the '70s failed to generate much interest. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi
